Self-fertilization results in production of three types of defective seeds, each with an incomplete penetrance: ovule abortion (32%), seed abortion (27%) and seeds with delayed early embryo development (40%). The last category develops into mature, viable seeds. Fertilization-independent seed development is observed after emasculation.
