Description:
Transgenic line overexpressing GNC. The genomic sequence of GNC was amplified from Col-0 genomic DNA and cloned into pCR8/GW/TOPO to generate an entry clone. The GNC entry clone was recombined into pEarleyGate 103 for C-terminal fusion with GFP and expression driven by the CaMV 35S promoter. Col-0 plants were transformed by the floral dip method and selection was performed based on resistance to Basta. Homozygous for the transgene.

Dark-green leaves, reduced shoot growth, small rosette, slight reduction in rosette leaf number. Enhanced chloroplast production in the roots and in both epidermal pavement and stomatal guard cells. Delayed bolting. Increased NPQ (nonphotochemical energy quenching) and a decrease in the flux of electrons through PSII. Increased stomatal and meristemoid indexes.
